As the first full moon shines behind the clouds of this new year, I find myself deep in a hibernation state. Every surface of my home is occupied by various stages of arts and crafts projects. And while it may look like chaos, there is a method to my madness.
I’ve completed the recording stage of the first Glass Aeros album with my band at Superior Sound Studios. As a multifaceted artist, my plans for this album expanded beyond the music itself. I am creating traditional artwork and film props to accompany the release and upcoming music videos.
I’ve been diving into my inspirations early film, Renaissance painters, and my 90s childhood nostalgia. In a world saturated with AI generated art, I’m producing everything by hand using traditional methods.
While I’m no stranger to digital media, tangible mediums have always spoken to me more deeply, offering a stronger and more grounding connection.
There was a dollhouse in the library of my elementary school. It brought me joy and a sense of safety as I immersed myself in its miniature world. I always wanted a dollhouse, but I never received one as a child. I longed for a place to retreat, a space where everything could feel perfect.
To me, a dollhouse represents idealism and innocence, while simultaneously embodying control and containment. Within it, you can attain what often feels out of reach in the real world. A dollhouse is a tangible miniature universe where fantastical things can feel true. It preserves childhood wonder and a belief in magic. Existing at a different scale within our world, it becomes a refuge from harsh unpredictability. Within its walls, we can set the stage for the life we dream of living.
The dollhouse I am currently building is the Greenleaf Orchid Dollhouse kit, made from pre cut wood sheets. I’ve been assembling it over the course of several months, working in small pockets of time. I’ve added custom modifications to reflect themes of childhood innocence that will appear in the music videos.
What you see here is the original version of the dollhouse, but I am literally cooking up another iteration. I’ll reveal more details as I continue working on many projects behind the scenes.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
