The First Listen of the First Cuts

After recording an album over the course of a year it is a long wait to press play on the first rough cuts. From recording the drums, bass, strings, and laying on the vocals, in the last few sessions it all came together.

I received the email with the link to the tracks while I was at work. I was excited yet also fearful of everything starting to solidify into something finalized. Although the mixing process has yet to begin I am still amazed that this album is coming together after the tumultuous journey I’ve had finding the right place and time for it to be born.

When I got home with my arms decorated in heavy grocery bags I set them aside to suit up my dogs for the bitter cold. I rushed back into the house with frozen fingers to put on a kettle of tea and eat the sushi lunch I grabbed from the deli counter.

The first track I opened I didn’t recognize as when we play it live as a full band I can feel it run through me. Setting ears on a studio version for the first time hits differently.

I later realized that I had received the track link on Friday January 23 at 11:11 AM, with 11:11 being a Master Number in numerology signifying a spiritual awakening and enlightenment confirming one is on the right path. Even if there is no truth to ‘New Age’ beliefs, it still brought the reassurance I needed to feel as I have been in a state of perpetual exhaustion. I have put every ounce of my energy into bringing this album to life.

Coincidentally I started listening to the title track at 4:44. The number 444 is associated with trusting your decisions. Maybe the Universe was calling me out as I ironically was being overly discerning and critical of my vocal performance.

There’s still a long way to go before this little birdy is ready to set sail on the winds of streaming platforms. The egg has hatched from my mind and into this world through collaborative hands. Its eyes are not yet open, its feathers have not emerged though I am grateful for those who continue to believe in this project and are nurturing it alongside me.

Thank you for being along for this ride. Thank you for continuing to believe!
